HOW DOES OUR SWIMMING POOL LEAK DETECTOR WORK?

How does our swimming pool leak detector work?

One of the most common questions when it comes to leak detection in swimming pools is “How does our swimming pool leak detector work”?  Or how do you determine if a pool is leaking or where it is leaking.

A float probe we submerge in the pool measures water level changes to the 10,000th of an inch, enabling leaks to be identified in as little as 5 minutes. The leak equipment is so sensitive that water loss of less than a gallon from a 20ft. x 40ft. pool is readily indicated.

Need of speed for leak location

The most important reason that we utilize this technology is the need for speed of leak location.  Other traditional methods can be time consuming and take days to determine if a pool is leaking.  After days of testing with traditional methods the data is not always conclusive as it is with our technology.

Leaks waste water, heat and chemicals not to mention swim and recreation time; they can cause structural damage to the pool liner, floor and deck.  Our leak detection equipment will confirm a pool’s leak status before investing time in extensive leak location procedures.

Leak location

Once our leak detection equipment has determined the pool does leak it is time to get down to locating the leak.  With respect to leaks in the vinyl of the pool we use another probe to find these leaks.   An electrical charge placed into the water of the pool will seek to make the least resistant connections to ground. The electrical current flow from the charge input, to the point of ground connection, creates a detectable current path in the water. We call this detectable current path a “Leak Track”. Our sumberged probe and processing unit detects the “Leak Tracks”, by measuring the differential voltage potential at different points in the pool, and translates this information into an audible on our headset that increases in frequency as the voltage differential increases.

With respect to leaks in the plumbing our psi testing equipment regulates an optimum level of liquid and gas in the plumbing to create and audible on our headset so we can pinpoint the location of the plumbing leak.

Leave the guesswork out of it and contact us to find your swimming pool leaks.
