Saltwater Pool Maintenance Cheat Sheet

One of the biggest questions we get in our water lab is what the special requirements are for saltwater pools.  The answer is easy and when you are organized and partner with a pool professional, the care for your salt water pool is very easy.

Saltwater Pool Maintenance Cheat Sheet

Daily:

1.) Test for chlorine and pH.

2.) Check the skimmer and pump basket and clean out if necessary.

3.) Clean the pool as required.

4.) Check the water level and adjust as required.

5.) Swim…swim…swim

Weekly:

1.) Test the pool water for chlorine and pH and adjust as required. If your testing shows that the  water chemistry is out of balance or if there is other problems, bring in water sample (1 litre) into Aqua-Tech for analysis.

2.) Check the sump pit and ensure that it is operating properly.

3.) Perform your weekly maintenance…Adjust your salt chlorinator (whatever percentage it takes to keep your chlorine testing 1-3 ppm into the skimmer, Amaze pouches into the pool (1 per 40,000 ltrs of water), 3 caps Ultra Cleanse into your skimmer

4.) Vacuum the pool and clean your filter (backwash sand or rinse cartridges) if your     pressure is 8-10 lbs higher than the start of the season.

First Sunday of every month:

1.) Remove the sump pump from the pit and clean any debris off the bottom. Test it for               operation and put it back into the pit.

2.) Remove your System 3 filters (if you use them) from the tank. Rinse off any large debris             and let them air-dry.

3.) Bring in a water sample to Aqua-Tech for maintenance analysis (Monday), even if the             chemistry looks good.

4.)  Check your salt cell to see if it needs chemical cleaning.

After a heavy rain or a party:

1.) Broadcast the weekly amount of Amaze around the edges of the deep end to

“gas-off” any organic wastes and press BOOST on your chlorinator.

2.) Test the pool water for chlorine and pH and adjust as required. If your testing shows   that the  water chemistry is out of balance or if there is other problems, bring in water           sample (1 litre) into Aqua-Tech for analysis.

3.) Check the sump pit and ensure that it is operating properly.

Yearly:

1.) Chemically clean your sand or cartridge filter

2.) Chemically clean your salt cell.
