How To Store Pool and Spa Chemicals In The Winter

storing chemicals winter blog

Ever wondered what should and shouldn’t be left outside in the pool shed over the winter months?

Look no further…Read on to learn more!

  • Pool and spa chemicals should be stored in their original containers, and placed in a dry location out of direct sunlight.
  • Always check the packaging label for specific instructions for each product, but generally, in the winter all liquid products should be brought indoors to prevent them from freezing. Extreme temperature change/fluctuation can negatively impact the effectiveness of the product, and it may no longer provide the desired results.
  • Ensure the lids are all tightly secured on the containers to keep critters out, avoid moisture in the product and of course, so that no spills occur.
  • Powder or dry products can be left outside in a safe, dry place, ideally off the ground (raised on a pallet or shelf).
  • If anything looks discoloured or off in the spring, it is best to dispose of it and replace it to ensure it will perform as intended. If you are ever unsure or how to safely dispose of a product, call 311 or your local non-emergency line.
