1. What is the best temperature for a sauna?

While the appropriate temperature for your sauna will depend on your personal preference, most people keep theirs anywhere between 150-175 degrees Fahrenheit for traditional saunas, and 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit for infrared saunas.

2. How long is it safe to stay inside a sauna?

This also varies from person to person, but one can usually stay in the sauna comfortably for 10-15 minutes. Make sure to take breaks to cool off and exit the sauna if you ever begin to feel uncomfortable.

3. How long does the average sauna take to heat up?

A traditional sauna typically takes 30-45 minutes to heat up, while it only takes about 10 minutes for an infrared sauna to reach preferred temperature.

4. What are the benefits of using a sauna?

Relaxation is the number one benefit mentioned by sauna users, as well as positive effects seen from detoxification.

5. What kind of circuit breaker should be used for a sauna?

Standard breakers should be used, and they should be sized to national code. Alternatively, Infrared saunas can be plugged in to a household 120-volt outlet (15 or 20 amp.)

6. What is an appropriate heater size for my sauna?

To find your heater size, measure the Length x Width x Height to find the cubic footage of your sauna. Use the manufacturer’s heater chart to find the correct size.

7. What kind of floor is best for a sauna?

For traditional saunas you can use cement, tile, or anything that doesn’t absorb water. For an infrared sauna, wood or tile is perfect. Carpet should never be used in a sauna.

8. How do I choose the right type of wood for my sauna?

There are a lot of variables when choosing the best type of wood for your sauna, as well as taking into consideration style and personal preference. After choosing a wood type, you can then decide which hardware and accessories will be best suited to create a sauna built to last for years of enjoyment.
