Green Pools! Algae Destruction for Bioguard

Its that time of year when you might start to see green. Are you using Banish in your weekly maintenance?  We get busy over the summer and sometimes we aren’t always able to maintain our pools the way we like and we start to see green! What does this mean!? It means that we can see algae when it reaches 30 000 ppm per ounce and we need to destroy them!

It is our experience that the following procedure has been effective in treating 90% of algae problems common in swimming pools.

Step 1. Vacuum, brush and remove as much debris from the pool as possible.

Step 2. Clean your filters!

Sand Filters: Backwash DAILY (backwash 2 mins, 30 sec). If you haven’t chemically cleaned your filter in the last 3 months, we recommend you do that with Filter Brite today.

Cartridge Filters: Remove the filter elements and rinse them both thoroughly (takes 60 – 90 mins) If you haven’t chemically cleaned your filter in the last 3 months we recommend you do that with 4 bags of Filter Brite today.

Step 3. Double Burn Out. Tonight when the sun is no longer directly hitting your pool, you will broadcast out (the recommended dose) bags/KG of Burnout across your pool water. After its been added to the pool, brush the sides and the bottom, no need to vacuum just brush!
Caution: if chemicals are not fully dissolved or applied quickly, permanent staining can occur (this is why brushing is vital)

Step 4. Erase. Wait 1 hour after adding Burnout, then pour (the recommended dose) of erase alla round the edges of the pool. After this has been added to the pool brush pools sides and bottom again.
In 48 hrs, the green color should be gone, if it’s not, repeat step 3 every evening until the pool no longer has a green appearance.

Step 5. Retest and Clarify. After the green color is gone, the pool water may look blueish/milky/cloudy. This means the algae is dead! At this point, please bring in another sample and come see your Aqua-Tech analyst for the correct treatment!

YOU MUST CHEMICALLY CLEAN YOUR FILTERS AGAIN AFTER THE ALGAE IS GONE OR YOUR AT RISK OF IT COMING BACK!

Tips:
-Always keep your chlorine at 2 ppm or higher
-Keep your pool circulating 24 hours per day during all of these procedures
-If the problem persists clean the filter again with Filter Brite
-Repeat algae could be a sign of a bigger problem. perhaps with circulation or filtration of your pool
