Hot tub too hot with —– error

My Sundance hot tub (maximus). We just opened up our hot tub for the season and went to use it the other day and it was really hot. Felt about 105 or 106. Temp said it was 99 and then a —– came on and waterfall stopped working. We tripped the breaker and it started working again but the —- came on again. Seems it is overheating. Maybe the thermostat is not reading well?

  1. Sandra the —- symbol is the Watchdog error.  It is normal for the spa to revert to this message if the spa overheats.  Take an external thermometer and measure the temperature inside near the filter compartment.  If the difference between that thermometer and the topside control is more then 2-5 degrees you may have a bad temperature sensor.  The temperature sensor is screwed into the wall of the spa near where the filter sits.  It is advisable to drain the spa if you are changing your temperature sensor.  Other things that can cause the —- msg are a runaway heat condition, poor flow, bad transformer, bad topside control panel, bad hi-limit, bad PWA.  If all else fails contact your local Sundance Support Desk to book a diagnostic and repair of your Sundance Maxxus Spa.
