Birds Hill

Never will I ever vacuum my pool again said this homeowner.  I am retired and I want my pool to be nothing but therapy for my wife and fun for my 13 grandchildren.  He asked and we replied with this backyard designed for form and function.

The existing pool was approximately 25 years old.  The homeowners had lived on the property for years and had the pool installed.  The existing pool was a 20ft x 40ft Rectangle, with 2ft radius corners, and a fiberglass step extending out of the shallow end.  The pool had a 4ft – 5ft perimeter of exposed aggregate concrete.  The homeowner’s main reason for the renovation was they wanted it to have an automatic pool cover, both for ease of use and as a safety feature for their grandchildren.

In order to install the auto cover we first had to remove the radius corners, and install new steel wall sections to make the pool a rectangle with 90 degree corners.  We installed full 20ft wide step inside the pool.  We installed an in-wall ladder with handrails to allow for deep end egress that would not interfere with the auto cover.  We excavated, and re shaped the pool floor in the deep end to accommodate the new rectangular shape.  Two large pool lights were installed on the one 40ft length of the pool to provide illumination.

We formed and poured a large architectural concrete patio area around the pool, tying it into the existing raised paver deck area and pool level pool house at the deep end side of the pool.  For this part of the renovation we poured to concrete steps to access the raised deck area, and we also installed 2 large deck drains to keep water from gathering on the concrete deck around the pool.

As with all pool renovations of this nature we installed a completely new circulation system including a wide mouth skimmer, 3 return jets andn new underground lines to the pool equipment.

We also installed 2 multi-coloured LED pool lights on the 40ft wall with the designated light control box located inside the house for ease of access.

What's included?

Installing an in-pool engineered vinyl-over-steel corner step

One of the most common trends in pool renovations today are built in entry and exit ways. Built in steel steps can be customized to any shape, size and depth. Adding luxury visual appeal and another area in your pool to rest and relax, all the while functionally working as entry and exit ways.

An automatic pool cover

Tired of rolling and unrolling your pool cover? An automatic pool cover can be added to any shape and size of a pool. New technology makes them even strong enough to support a person, not that we recommend walking on it to preserve it's life but an added safety layer for the wandering child or perhaps the excited dog!

Commercial style deck drainage for anti-slip safety

This client wanted totally no worries so we used commercial grade tools and material to shape, grade and drain the area to ensure that water runs away from the pool and they can enjoy worry free pool ownership.

In wall deep end ladder

Maximizing the area of their pool for swimming and allowing us to create that smooth cantilevered concrete finish all the way around the pool edge, a recessed deep end ladder gives you more space to swim and add an exit point at any area of your pool.

Installation of winter safety cover

Safety covers are the strongest, safest and best way to cover your pool in the winter. Anchors are installed into the concrete deck that enable a winter safety cover to be strong enough to support an elephant! The mesh on a safety cover blocks out leaves and debris that can fall and filter the uv rays and water keeping your pool free and clean during the covered months. Did you know that putting on and off a winter cover can take as little as 10 minutes? This also makes it a great solution if you are going away on a summer trip and want to feel confidence in the saftey of your pool.

Frequently Asked Questions
What time of year is best to change my pool liner?

Great question! Most people like to change their pool liner in the spring as it effects the pool usage least....or so they think! The best time for your pool structure is to replace the pool liner in the heat of the summer when the ground conditions are dry and stable. The process is pretty fast and we can easily accommodate this when your family is at the cottage for a couple days. Other than that, an autumn liner replacement works great for many folks. The great news is that we change pool liners April into October so there is lots of time to get you and your family swimming

How long does a pool liner change take?

There is a lot of steps that go into changing your pool liner. What most people find surprising is that more than half of them occur before we even start to drain the water from your pool. What we find on average is that from the day the existing pool is drained until the day you are able to swim again is about 7 days.
