FeaturedFeatured ProjectThere are 3 zones; the pool area, the bocci ball field and the lower fire pit zone. The pool features full length staircase, diving board and more. The pool equipment is cleverly hidden with an L shaped fence between the pool and the house. The bocci ball field uses artificial turf for a maintenance free yard. The lower firepit area near the water simulates time at the lake for great evening get togethers. The trees, plants and landscape lighting were installed by our team. This was a massive project as we installed artificial turf in the front yard as well. Expect a transformation of this size and detail to take 2 months to complete. That’s not long compared to the years of family enjoyment for this Winnipeg family.

Birds Hill
FeaturedFeatured ProjectNever will I ever vacuum my pool again said this homeowner. I am retired and I want my pool to be nothing but therapy for my wife and fun for my 13 grandchildren. He asked and we replied with this backyard designed for form and function.
The existing pool was approximately 25 years old. The homeowners had lived on the property for years and had the pool installed. The existing pool was a 20ft x 40ft Rectangle, with 2ft radius corners, and a fiberglass step extending out of the shallow end. The pool had a 4ft – 5ft perimeter of exposed aggregate concrete. The homeowner’s main reason for the renovation was they wanted it to have an automatic pool cover, both for ease of use and as a safety feature for their grandchildren.
In order to install the auto cover we first had to remove the radius corners, and install new steel wall sections to make the pool a rectangle with 90 degree corners. We installed full 20ft wide step inside the pool. We installed an in-wall ladder with handrails to allow for deep end egress that would not interfere with the auto cover. We excavated, and re shaped the pool floor in the deep end to accommodate the new rectangular shape. Two large pool lights were installed on the one 40ft length of the pool to provide illumination.
We formed and poured a large architectural concrete patio area around the pool, tying it into the existing raised paver deck area and pool level pool house at the deep end side of the pool. For this part of the renovation we poured to concrete steps to access the raised deck area, and we also installed 2 large deck drains to keep water from gathering on the concrete deck around the pool.
As with all pool renovations of this nature we installed a completely new circulation system including a wide mouth skimmer, 3 return jets andn new underground lines to the pool equipment.
We also installed 2 multi-coloured LED pool lights on the 40ft wall with the designated light control box located inside the house for ease of access.
East St Paul
FeaturedFeature ProjectThe yard is large, sloped and had some drainage issues to be solved. The design had to incorporate solutions, beauty and function. The grading was done at the time of the pool excavation so no water would run back to the house after the project was complete. There were deck drains designed and installed to clear the patio rain to the back of the yard. We also partnered with an eaves trough expert to have the roof water run around the pool.
The pool is a x 20’x40’ rectangle with a 10’ engineered vinyl over steel staircase. Lexington pavers surround the 3’ metallic grey concrete border. We built a custom concrete top with the same metallic grey concrete for the water feature.
The water feature is three sheer descent waterfalls. They are back lit for a stunning night effect which can be controlled by the homeowners’ cell phone via Pentair Easy Touch automation.

To create the pool we have used Diamond Brite Onyx Plaster. Diamond brite is the finish, and onyx is the color! This finish on a pool is so great because it can take the wear of the chemicals and if looked after properly, it can last up to 30 years. The reason that concrete is so popular is because of the richness in the way it looks, it can’t be cut with a knife, or tear, and ice can not break it!. The outdoor glass around the sides of the area make for great views of the wilderness surrounding the pool!

“But the pool on the hill sees the sun going down, And the eyes in his head, See the world spinning round” …. The Beatles said it best when looking at a pool on a hill, but this client is no fool! They wanted a functional update of their yard with a wonderful view on a man-made lake. Using the pool as the primary feature of the view from every window in the house and amazing places to sit and watch the world go by. This is a great example of a vintage Aqua-Tech pool that has stood the test of time. In one of the photos, you can see the concrete deck sitting level off the ground because of the support piers that we implement in construction.

Summer is short and when a client calls in March to say they need to be ready for their daughter’s pool party in April, well, sometimes magic happens. When a client asks us, “How can I make my pool look brand new without ripping anything apart?” We discuss fresh decking surfaces designed specifically to cover concrete cracks that Manitoba weather guarantees. The old skimmer and circulation system on this pool was found to be badly degraded and most definitely leaking. By correcting that situation with a new skimmer and return system, as well as some minor structural work that we found under the old liner, this pool looks fresh, modern and most importantly, will be worry-free for many years to come. This entire deck was rubber surfaced following this work.
St. James
Modern update is what this client asked us for and in partnership with their Aqua-Tech designer, they achieved all their goals. The most important message coming from this project, is that absolutely anything can be done to an existing pool structure.
The existing pool was approximately 25 years old and was a fairly large 17ft x 38ft Jewel/Oval. The homeowners had lived on the property for a few years and wanted to do a full renewal on the pool in order to upgrade the mechanical, structural, and hydraulic aspects, as well as to give it a more contemporary look and feel. The pool had a 3ft perimeter of plain concrete with a small patio area that had shifted, heaved, and cracked over time which they wanted to upgrade. They also wanted to install some kind of water feature to add another dimension of sight and sound to the back yard. The pool only had a ladder for access and they thought it would be nice to have a walk-in step for themselves and their children.
In addition to removing and replacing the existing concrete with new architectural concrete with a cantilevered capstone edge, and replacing the entire circulation system, we installed a large 10ft wide, 5ft radius engineered vinyl over steel step, and a beautiful 4ft double modular Rico Rock waterfall with some additional feature rocks on either side. A multi-coloured LED pool light was installed to add a touch of night time ambience.

Manitoba gumbo is a term we all know about our clay type soil here in Winnipeg and the surrounding area. With a volatile freeze thaw cycle and weather that can vary from sopping wet to drought conditions, it is a wonder that more pools are not radically out of level. This issue can cause day to day issues in terms of water level and care for the pool, not to mention the esthetic impact. This client was so happy to hear that when a pool is out of level it can be addressed. That correction, as well as getting rid of outdated and hail damaged ‘patio’ style coping made their dreams come true – yours are next.

Past its “Best Before Date” is the best description of this pool when we were called to advise. Upgrading of the circulation system was the main concern due to massive water loss. While the pool was exposed, we were able to address the other issues that are not visible or diagnosable when a pool has a liner in it.

Another excellent example of a “Lazy L” shape conversion. The photos speak for themselves. Most times, the pool owner doesn’t come in asking for this conversion as they don’t realize that its possible. The designer will expose these shape options during their discovery conversation.

When a pool is well cared for with immaculate water balance the pool can look amazing for many years. Innovations in walk in stairs, water feature lighting and decking surfaces can take what was a nice space and transform it into a spectacular showpiece of your home with greatly enhanced functionality

The existing pool was approximately 35 years old. The homeowners had just purchased the house and wanted to totally renovate the pool and back yard. The existing pool was a 16ft x 40ft Lazy ‘L’, with a fiberglass spa/step extending out of the shallow end. The pool had a 3ft perimeter of concrete with a small patio area that combined concrete and interlock pavers. The pool also had the original wide 6” aluminum patio coping. The pool and patio area was dated and the homeowners wanted something more contemporary. They had a large family with small children and were looking for a number of items. They wanted the pool to have an automatic pool cover for safety reason, a larger concrete patio area for entertaining, and they wanted updated pool lighting as well as some kind of water feature to enhance the pool and the large back yard.

“Why does my pool liner get air behind it every spring?” was the question that brought this client to us. This is not air but water coming from the ground when the snow melts or when there is a heavy rain. Our design team came up with a solution that gave this customer back a yard for the kids, and a pool that is safe, secure and worry free.

When a pool liner starts to fade it is not just the pattern that is degraded, a leaking pool can erode the pool floor. This customer was selling his home and wanted to be sure that the new owners had as good of an experience as he had with his family over the years. He wanted the liner changed and any floor issues dealt with prior to the sale.

A Full L shaped pool is like having 2 pools in one! A full shallow end and a full deep end. This Crestview pool needed a new liner, circulation system as well as new broom finished concrete decking. Once the walls were exposed, there was also some corroded steel to deal with. It was originally built for the kids in the 80’s and is now ready for the grandchildren.
