Renovating your pool and yard? If you are thinking of making changes to your space there is much to consider, what do I really want? How will I use the space? The following is an example from a recent client’s project. They purchased a home with a need to revamp an older pool with a yard that was not functioning for their young family. A new home deserves a new pool – one built with you and your family in mind. This client wanted to upgrade the pool to suit them and their young growing family – with every area designed from fence to fence for the comfort and fun of their children…good design ensures it works perfectly for the grownups too!

Project Scope

1. Steel steps

This pool had no entry or exit other than basic ladders, the client asked how we could make this pool accessible for all? The decision to add a steel integrated step was a perfect solution! We were able to add a safe entry that was visually appealing. An integrated stair can be added that will be covered seamlessly in the same vinyl as the liner, making everything look cohesive and original. In this project they opted for a corner step that did not impede their shallow water area and was done without the use of a plastic add-ons that are not visually appealing! The decision made it safe for exit and entry without sacrificing style!

2. Entertainment space

This home had a large area for dining, lounging, barbequing and so on. The issue at hand was how to rectify crumbled cracked concrete that was not comfortable to walk on or attractive to look at. The solution was to remove the dated plain hardscape and add all new pool decking and patio in one material. Stamped coloured concrete was effective in making the space flow from pool to lounge. The texture and colour added so much to the area while giving a comfortable feeling under foot.

3. Grading the yard

A large yard with a slope was an issue for this family, big space with little usable area for the children. Grading most of the yard to one level was key in offering a green space for the family to enjoy outdoor games and allow family pets a play area as well.

4. Retaining wall

This space sloped up to the rear of the yard. The client wanted to see a space with visual interest and a usable green space. Grading the bulk of the yard meant adding a retaining wall to create a raised area for their fire table and plantings. The wall was not only needed to keep fill in its place but also make for an interesting visual with two levels. Beautiful architectural stone was used that had a varied pattern helped draw the eye to the back portion of the yard.

5. Liner pattern and colour selection

In this case the homeowners had renovated the interior of their home and wanted the new aesthetic to flow outdoors. Selecting colours and textures that are timeless and practical are paramount. We chose a stunning liner that made the pool feel like a tropical paradise! and surrounded it with concrete and stone that had a modern feel. The choices made helped to create a space that felt like a resort with contrast and flow.

7. Softscape

The final and perhaps most personal part of this project was using plantings to complete the space. This client said they are not good with plants or gardening… that did not stop us from finding easy to grow low maintenance offerings. The architectural detail created by prairie grasses and flowering shrubs made this yard shine! The homeowners did not have to add watering systems or add to their weekly chores to maintain the look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Looking to renovate your pool? Here are answers to common questions about pool renovations to help you get started working with us.
Great question! Most people like to change their pool liner in the spring as it effects the pool usage least….or so they think! The best time for your pool structure is to replace the pool liner in the heat of the summer when the ground conditions are dry and stable. The process is pretty fast and we can easily accommodate this when your family is at the cottage for a couple days. Other than that, an autumn liner replacement works great for many folks. The great news is that we change pool liners April into October so there is lots of time to get you and your family swimming
There is a lot of steps that go into changing your pool liner. What most people find surprising is that more than half of them occur before we even start to drain the water from your pool. What we find on average is that from the day the existing pool is drained until the day you are able to swim again is about 7 days.
